Application Procedures

applyA complete application includes the following:

  • online application to UC Santa Cruz Division of Graduate Studies
  • $70 application fee (pay by credit card or electronic check to UC Regents)
  • official transcripts from all institutions of higher learning attended after high school
  • three letters of recommendation (submitted electronically)
  • official Graduate Record Examination general test scores
  • Graduate Record Examination subject test score (recommended, not required)
  • Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) official score (international students). Scores are valid for two years.

Application files missing any of the above items will not be reviewed. Once your application is submitted online you will be assigned a login and password for a website http://my.ucsc.edu where you can check on missing items. This information will be posted after December 1. It is your responsibility to make sure all items have been received.

Applications must be submitted online.

The application deadline for Fall 2009 is January 15, 2009. The application web site will open in early October.

In exceptional situations where internet access is impossible, applicants may contact the Graduate Admissions office for a paper application by emailing beperez@ucsc.edu. Please be advised that paper applications will take longer to process than applications submitted online.

The Graduate Admissions office issues notification of admission or denial by email during the month of March.
